Conditioning Green
Hydrangea
Once in possession of your Green Hydrangea, the first job will be conditioning.
Green hydrangea needs to be hydrated correctly overnight before using in arrangements. Please
follow our step by step guide to get the best from your green hydrangeas:
-
Green hydrangeas drink loads of water - Cut an inch or two from the bottom of the
stems with a sharp knife at a 45° angle.
-
Fill a large cut flower bucket, (or your bath), with very hot water and
sterilising fluid. (bleach will be fine).
-
When sterilised, empty the flower bucket and re-fill with cold water.
-
Submerge the entire flower in the water, (making sure that all the petals are
under water), and leave for approx. 2 hours.
-
Remove the lower foliage from the stems, leaving a few just under the flower head
if required.
-
Sterilise a flower bucket with boiling water and sterilising fluid.
-
When sterilised, re-fill the flower bucket with warm water and hydrangea
food. (Buy hydrangea food from your wholesaler).
-
Plunge the green hydrangeas into the flower bucket with water ¾ the way up
the stems and leave to hydrate over night.
-
Your green hydrangea will be ready to work with in the morning.

Tip
Never leave green hydrangea next to a radiator, in a draft, in direct
sunlight or near fresh fruit. (The gas used to ripen fruit will poison your green hydrangea).
